What is Family Promise?
Family Promise of Charlotte is a network of multi-dimensional churches in the Charlotte area that provide food, shelter, and support for families in need of shelter. This program utilizes existing community resources to address the needs of homeless families. By doing so, we provide a cost-effective way to address family homelessness and increase the involvement of the community in the issues and solutions.
Who is at The Heart of the Family Promise Network?
Volunteers from local churches and various community agencies are the heart of the Network; without them, it cannot exist. Volunteers provide a variety of services: cooking and serving meals, playing with children or helping them with homework, and staying overnight. Beyond providing lodging and meals, volunteers interact with the guests, treating them with respect and responding with compassion.
The program serves families who are defined as one of the following:
Single mother with child(ren)
Single father with child(ren)
A couple with child(ren)
Legal Guardian with child(ren)
What is the Time Frame for Services?
Services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each family.
Is There a Fee?
There is no fee for participating in any of the services provided.
How are Referrals Made?
Local social service agencies refer families to the Network. Additionally, self-referrals are also accepted.
What Services Are Available?
The agencies help guests with intensive case management, budgeting, debt repayment, finding housing, jobs, and other supportive services. Since Family Promise is primarily comprised of volunteers, the social services agencies help assess potential guest families for active substance abuse, domestic violence or psychiatric problems.
